Understanding Research Paradigms for Scientific Publications

Diponegoro University Library and Undip Press held Webinar Series 7 with the theme “Understanding Research Paradigms for Scientific Publications” on Tuesday, 3 October 2023, via Zoom meeting media. The activity was opened by the Deputy Chancellor for Communication and Business, Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D and attended by 210 webinar participants with resource person Dr. Soenarto, M.Si Undip master’s lecturer in communication. In the opening session, Prof. Budi said that the library is the heart of all activities carried out in academic activities. Without a library, an essential and substantive element in the process of carrying out university tasks and also in carrying out the tri dharma of higher education will be lame and impossible to run perfectly.

On this occasion, Prof. Budi added regarding the importance of webinar activities held by the Undip Library and providing direction when conducting research and publications, researchers need to go to the library to review research and analyze articles and books related to the field being researched. This is done to find out how far the problem or phenomenon has been revealed on the topic to be researched. Otherwise, perhaps we are unaware or do not know that what we are going to research or publish has already been published or researched by other researchers. If we don’t raise awareness regarding the references in the library, it could be that our work results in redundancy (uselessness) or repeating what other people have done. Dr. Soenarto, M.Sc., as a resource person, delivered material ranging from paradigm definition to the application of paradigm in scientific publications. Research paradigms need to be known and understood before conducting research research. Must recognize the different paradigms, including positivism, postpositivism, critical, and constructivism.
